Changing Formats and Submission Guidelines

Hiya folks, due to several factors, I have decided to change MDQ to an ezine-only format. I have also decided to open up submissions even further, to include the Dungeon Spaces and Creator’s Corner columns. If you want to write about your favorite dungeon or furniture/toy creator, please feel free to contact me.  Publication may also become more free-form, and less on the strict quarterly schedule, depending upon submissions. Also, if you have any ideas that don’t fit in the typical 8 categories, but still fit the mission of MDQ, please contact me as well. Remember, this is a forum for the discussion of dungeon creation and maintenance, not a forum for erotica or lifestyle discussions, there are many awesome sites for that already.

Issue Four Now Online

All the articles are now online for Issue Four. Come take a look at all the fun. We’ve got AIS Kink Labs, Whips and Bondage Chairs.  I had a great time with this issue, and I hope you enjoy it just as much.

Considering a change for next year, possibly cutting out the print version, and just posting things online. Maybe opening up all the articles as well and have different exclusive content. I’m not entirely sure yet. We’ll see how the holidays go. Comments and feedback welcome.

Whips and Chairs

Whips & Single Tails by Daydreamweaver

There are a number of very different toys which are categorized as whips, but here we focus on the single-tailed varieties: signal whips, bullwhips, stock whips, dog whips, buggy whips, horse whips, target whips, et cetera. There are huge differences between some of these types in terms of size, construction, style of use, and cost; what defines them as whips is a single striking component. In the right hands, each is capable of making that delicious cracking sound which can make some submissives go weak in the knees.

Bondage Chair by Victor Pringle

It is always pleasant to see a pretty bottom tied helplessly to a chair waiting for their top to do with her as they will. Choosing the right chair makes all the difference to the experience both the top and bottom will have.

A dining room chair can be perverted into an acceptable bondage chair. However it does not have all the advantages a custom designed chair has. With the dining room chair the bottom can only have their legs restrained to the chair leg. Their arms would have to be tied behind their backs behind the back of the chair. To prevent the bottom from raising themselves from the seat their torso would have to be bound to the back of the chair. Access to the bottom’s genital area is limited with the seat getting in the way.

Concrete Floors & AIS Kink Labs

Painting & Sealing Concrete Floors

You have this great basement, with high ceilings and tons of space. You just bought a warehouse for the ultimate community dungeon. You have decided that your garage would make an awesome play space. But the floor is a boring, grease-spotted concrete slab. This article will tell you how to turn that slab into another wonderful part of your dungeon décor.

First thing, you want to clean up any oil, grease or other spills and stains. Kitty litter can be used to soak up any large messes. Trisodium phosphate, or TSP, is a good degreaser, and can be used to scrub up any remaining stains. Use an all purpose cleaner to mop up the entire floor, and ensure the removal of any remaining litter or TSP. Rinse the floor with clean water, then let the floor dry completely.

AIS Kink Labs

As the AIS parties got bigger, more furniture was needed. As more furniture was needed, Barak needed more space to build it. Leading up to the first C.O.P.E., their entire house was filled with furniture in progress, not to mention sawdust. Thus, the Kink Lab was born. A 24′ x 24′ building where he has the space for new and better tools, and where he can build a new piece of furniture in the span of two days. And they can have dinner at the dining room table both nights.

Home Sterilization & The AIS Mobile Dungeon Teasers

Home Sterilization

Metal toys are fun to play with, but when bodily fluids are involved, they require a little more care than your average toy between uses. Sounds, knives and the like need more than cleaning and sanitizing, they need to be sterilized, too. Most of us do not have access to an autoclave, but a home pressure cooker can do the job, too. This article will tell you how.

First things first, you do still have to clean and sanitize these items before sterilizing. Use warm water and soap to remove and lube and bodily fluids or anything else that might have gotten on the items. You may want to wear gloves while doing this to protect yourself, as well. After they are clean, you can sanitize them a few different ways. Bleach or hydrogen peroxide can be used in a 10% solution to sanitize your items, or 70% alcohol will also work. After air drying, these items are now clean and sanitized, and it is time for sterilization.

AIS Mobile Dungeon

This year’s AIS (Adventures is Sexuality) dungeon at C.O.P.E. (Central Ohio Perversion Excursion) was made up of four rooms: the main dungeon, a wet room and a sensual space, which was also the daytime play space, and a theme room. The wet room was filled with massage tables, with the entire floor covered with tarps taped down to protect the carpet. This room was for any messy play or fire play, including wax play. The sensual/day space had a massage table, a cross, a spanking bench and the octagonal suspension beam. The theme room held the Scarlet Sanctuary the first night, a place for sacred touch. The second night it hosted the Littles’ Petting Zoo and then a room of electric play. These were down the hall from the main play space which held most of the AIS equipment.

Nearly Done

:P utting the final touches on the articles this week. Interview with Barak and Sheba tomorrow. Then I get to put it all together. I think this will be the best issue yet. One year of Modern Dungeon Quarterly will be complete with this issue.Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible throughout the year.

If you’d like to be part of Year Two, drop me a line. I need four more dungeons, crafters, and articles of all kinds to fill the pages in 2013.

Next week: teasers.

New Article Ideas

As I started work this week on some of the research for issue four, I decided to change tracks entirely on two of the articles, to topics that seemed a bit more in demand than my previous choices. I browsed forums and found two of the questions being asked were about sealing and painting cement floors, and about home sterilization of toys without having an autoclave. So, I pulled together my own research on these topics for the Practical Touches and Safety First articles, I do hope you, my readers, find these articles useful.

Next week is the big interview, and then maybe even a sneak peak at a picture or two. And very soon indeed, it will be November and the final issue of the year will be out. In the meantime, check out the first three issues here on the site, and let me know what you think. Or what you’d like to write about for an issue next year. Just drop me an email at Modern Dungeon Quarterly at gmail dot com.

Post-C.O.P.E. Post

I spent this past weekend at COPE, and it was Amazing. Pictures were taken of the dungeons, and I can hardly wait to see the final proofs. I am really looking forward to putting that article together.

I am also looking forward to great articles from DayDreamWeaver and Mechanica again this month. Victor has already come through with an excellent article on his favorite bondage chair design.

I admit, I’m a bit behind on my own assignments, but then, that’s typical. I always did my assignments Sunday night at college, too. I am very excited for the next issue, due out on November 1st.

Home from ChiCon

I just realized I forgot to link up last week’s articles on the main Issue page. So now Canes and Wax Clean Up are properly linked on the Issue Three page. And that issue is now completely posted.

Issue Four is well underway as well. I’ve got a new guest writer for this issue, who has done a wonderful article on building a bondage chair. I’ll be featuring AIS Kink Labs and the AIS portable dungeon in this issue as well. I’m very excited to have a out-of-home dungeon for my final issue of the year. DayDreamWeaver, my lovely editor, has also agreed to write an article this time. It’s going to be a great issue to round out the year.
