Issue 2 Articles Posted

I was so excited about the magazine being published last week that I forgot to write a post letting you know that articles were posted. Last week I posted the Metal Bondage article and the Spanking Benches article.  This week, I’m happy to announce the posting of the first article, not written by me. This issue’s Toy Box article on Paddles was written by Toy and is now posted for Members only.  Also posted today is the Practical Touches article on Hiding From Prying Eyes.

As always, comments are welcome and encouraged. And don’t forget, if you buy the full issue, in paper or digitally, you get even more pictures. So head on over to Magcloud now and get your copy.

It’s almost time. The next issue will be released on May 1st, less than a week away. In the meantime, here are a few more teasers from the articles you’ll get in this brand new issue.

Practical Touches
Hiding from Prying Eyes

You have great ideas, an awesome space, and toys and furniture on order. But you also have kids, nosy in-laws, and vanilla friends who like to visit. How do you keep your dungeon a secret, and protect your loved ones’ sensibilities? There are a lot of options available, from simple to complex to creative.

The simplest answer is to lock the dungeon door. This is exactly what our first featured dungeon owners used to do. The room was off-limits and locked while her child was a minor. This works best if there are no budding locksmiths in the house, but it can also make the secret that much more tantalizing. Nothing is so desirable as something you cannot have.

Tips & Tricks
Bodily Fluids
by Mechanica

The quicker you get to a fluid spill in your dungeon, the easier it will be to clean and the less likely to stain. It is ideal to get to a spill just after it happens or at least before it has dried. Once a spill has dried, more intense cleaning comes into play.

It is important to remember that bodily fluids are protein based. This means that warm or hot water will set the stain rather than cleaning it so stick to cold water when trying to clean bodily fluids. Also, use detergents and soaps that contain enzymes to clean fluid stains as these will help to break down the proteins and lift the stain.

The ease or difficulty with which a bodily fluid is cleaned is primarily dependent upon the surface on which is has spilled.

Issue Two Teasers: Music and Spanking Benches

Teasers from upcoming articles in Modern Dungeon Quarterly’s Spring Issue:

Featured Furniture: Spanking Benches
Corporal punishment has a long and colorful history, but spanking benches themselves are a relatively new development. While certainly inspired by the various positions one might be punished in, the benches themselves were wholly developed by the BDSM community starting in the late 19th century. Mrs Theresa Berkley, a 19th century British dominatrix, is known for her creation of the Berkley Horse, but this device held the victim in a fairly upright position, instead of bent over as most spanking benches are designed now.

Setting the Mood: Music
The preferred dungeon music for any given play space can be as varied as the individuals involved in the community. There is someone I know who might prefer to have every one of her scenes accompanied by the CD from Metallica entitled “S&M”. That wouldn’t work very well for most people however. Some people can find themselves very distracted when they play if the music playing has any words or singing. They find themselves wanting to sing along with the song they recognize which takes away from the energy of their scenes. Whereas some others find that a song they know and love can energize them, and allow them to put more into their play. Let’s talk about how to accommodate as many people as possible with your musical choices for your local play spaces.

Master Doug’s Party

I had a really nice time this Saturday at Master Doug’s. P.E. Palfreyman and I got a guided tour of the dungeon and then spent quite a while taking pictures of all the great furniture he has built or modified for the space. After Doug finished setting up for his party, he graciously answered all the questions I could think of about the space, and about his own creations. We had a great chat about the fulfillment of creating.

Then it was time for the party. Folks filtered in throughout the night. I chatted with a lot of new people and old friends. I got to share this magazine with a lot of new people, and talk about the community. There were quite a few people out for their birthday spankings, so Master Doug’s spanking benches saw quite a bit of use. It had been a long day for me and my tummy was unhappy, so towards the end of the night I curled up on the big bondage bed next to a rope scene and took a nap to the sounds of pleasure, pain and classic rock.

It is an incredible space, and I look forward to putting out the next issue to share it with all of my readers.

New Writer and The Next Dungeon

I am quite eager for the weekend. I have heard such great things about Master Doug’s dungeon. I can’t wait to get a look at it. As well as talk to him about it all and his own creations.

I have also found a new writer. Mechanica will be helping me with this issue’s Tips & Tricks article, and next issue’s Featured Furniture. I’m excited to have another person involved in this project.

So, if anyone else has an idea for Issue 3, drop me a line.

Spanking Benches

This week’s article is on spanking benches. Not a whole lot of history, but a lot of interesting information on designs and uses. ;)   The Monkey King is hard at work defining different types of music. Toy is working on practical experience with different types of paddles. Issue Two is going to be full of a lot of great articles.
