Safety First: First Aid Kits

BDSM is not always a safe pastime. It has its risks as well as its rewards. It is important to be as prepared as possible for these risks, and so every dungeon or play space should have a well-stocked first aid kit. But what do you put in it? Well, that depends on what types of play you enjoy, and the risks they involve.

From a slice of the knife, to the sharp crack of a whip, to banging your knee on a sharp corner, treating cuts and scrapes is the most common use of a first aid kit. To treat these common mishaps, you will need:

  • Bandages of all sizes
  • Gauze Pads
  • Butterfly Closures
  • Medical Tape
  • Bandage Scissors
  • Non-Latex Gloves
  • Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Iodine
  • Antibiotic cream
  • A clotting agent (flour, sulfur powder)

From fire play, to rough play, to rope, sometimes we get a little more than we bargained for. These items can be used to treat a multitude of sprains, strains, burns, bruises and also shock:

  • Burn Cream
  • Aloe
  • Ace Bandages
  • Aspirin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen
  • Ice Pack, Heating Pad
  • Smelling Salts
  • Glucose Tabs
  • Safety Scissors, Rescue Hook

Finally, some more generally useful things to keep nearby:

  • Blankets
  • Bottled water or sports drink
  • Phone
  • Thermometer
  • Tweezers
  • Saline eye drops
  • Flashlight
  • Snakebite Kit
  • Tongue Depressors
  • Sharps Container
  • Bucket
  • Towels, Washcloths
  • Sling
